Volunteer

Our volunteers are our everyday heroes!

Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Our volunteering opportunities are as varied as you!

Make a difference, volunteer today

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family.

We provide the training. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life. Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is…

You don't need to be Bear Grylls to volunteer

Being a Scout has taught me so many skills. I have had so much fun, learnt lots and I have made so many friends.

James
Explorer Scout

Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. That's what I love about Scouts.

Bear Grylls

Scouting set me on the right path at a young age, because I loved the outdoors and I loved adventure.

It gave me the opportunity to discover new interests, explore new boundaries and build the confidence to achieve new goals.

British Astronaut

A Scout is never taken by surprise; he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens.

Lord Robert Baden‑Powell

Here’s how you can get involved:

Administrative Support: Put your skills to work behind the scenes by helping with fundraising, facilities management, marketing, recruitment, or as a member of our Trustee Board.

Work Directly with Youth: Share your passion and knowledge by becoming a leader, helper, or member of the Scout Active Support team. Engage with young people on a weekly or occasional basis to guide and inspire them.

Support Fellow Adults: Offer your expertise as a Lead Volunteer, Team Leader. Provide valuable guidance and mentorship to other adults in the Scouting community.

How much time do I need to volunteer?

You can volunteer as much or as little time as you have! From an hour or two a month with our behind-the-scenes roles, to several hours a week with our young people facing roles. Apply to be a volunteer, and let us know what you can do and we will help find a role that suits you!

Share you skills

We are always looking for people with new skills or knowledge that we can utilse for the good of the Group.

Are you a chef, gardener, builder, artist or musician for example? Good at sports or have an unusual talent?

It would be good to know about this to see if your knowledge, skill or talent can be utilised with an activity for one of our Sections.

That is, of course, if you are willing to share a bit of your time. Remember, “Knowledge is power”.

Help out at a Section Meeting

Throughout the year, the programme of activities in each Section is very varied and at times requires additional parent/carer support.

With the safety and security of our young people at the forefront of all of our activities, we need to ensure that anyone who regularly assists in Scouting has a valid DBS certificate.

If you are willing to help out, please talk to your Section Leader who will advise you of the next steps for completing the DBS process which we can help you with.

Any amount of volunteering you can offer would benefit all our young people and the Group as a whole.
